A reader found in my piece of fiction a question that also appears every day in gastronomy and hospitality.
After reading my short story Easter Without Clousure (published in Everyday Fiction), a reader commented that, after living in a country where many products were rationed, returning to a British supermarket filled with choices felt overwhelming.
I found that fascinating because it connects to a question that goes far beyond fiction:
At what point does abundance stop feeling like freedom?
In gastronomy, hospitality and consumer experiences, we often assume that more choice automatically creates a better experience. Yet too many options can also lead to indecision, anxiety and decision fatigue.
That tension was one of the ideas behind this story.
What do you think? Does having more choice always lead to a better experience?
