The latest issue of The Madrid Review revolves around the sea: pollution, migration, memory, borders, and disappearance.
My contribution, No Pings, starts from a different question: What happens when the sea stops being a landscape and starts keeping accounts?
Not a force of revenge, but as a patient system that records fuel, plastic, noise, and waste. A system that remembers everything humans leave behind and, sooner or later, restores the balance.
Sometimes science fiction is not about inventing monsters.
Sometimes it is about imagining that unfinished accounts can learn to look back.
Honoured to be part of issue 8 of The Madrid Review.
